Selecting a crib for your newborn is one of the great milestones of parenthood. Unfortunately, buying a crib can set you as far back as $700 to $1000 if you aren’t careful.
When spotting the perfect crib, always remember that comfort and safety should always come above design, print and brand. Remember, any designer crib is going to be worth its weight in lead as soon as your baby spits, vomits or dirties it up for the first time.
Don’t get too carried away with matching every piece of furniture in your nursery, including your crib. If you’re too particular about aesthetic, pick a design that’s of a solid color, or comes with a pleasant wooden finish that’s easy to match.
Don’t be afraid to look at second hand cribs either, but make sure they are already assembled if you finally decide on one. You don’t want the surprise of unforeseen safety hazards from having to assemble a used crib from scratch. A good, thorough ocular inspection of the crib is a must. Rusting screws and worn, splintering wood will be a safety concern if left unnoticed.
But matched with the perfect set of crib beddings, even the cheapest of cribs can stand out with quality as long as it’s made safe, cozy and comfortable.
